Adam Deitz to Present National CLE Program on Maritime Injury Law

Mariner Law is pleased to announce that maritime attorney Adam Deitz will teach “From Dock to Docket: Maritime Injury Law,” a continuing legal education program offered by TRT CLE. The course is designed to help attorneys recognize maritime injury claims and understand how federal maritime law can differ from ordinary state-law personal injury and workers’ compensation systems.

A Practical Introduction to Maritime Injury Claims

Injuries aboard vessels and on or near navigable waters may be governed by specialized federal statutes and general maritime law. Identifying the correct legal framework at the outset can affect the available claims, defendants, remedies, deadlines, and litigation strategy.

Adam’s course will give personal injury attorneys, workers’ compensation lawyers, and general practitioners a practical introduction to the issues they may encounter when a client is injured aboard a vessel, at a dock or terminal, or while performing maritime work.

Topics Covered in the CLE

  • How to identify when an injury may fall within maritime jurisdiction
  • Passenger negligence claims under general maritime law
  • Jones Act negligence claims for injured seamen
  • Unseaworthiness claims against vessel owners
  • Maintenance and cure for injured seamen
  • The Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act and Section 905(b) vessel-negligence claims
  • The Limitation of Liability Act and its effect on maritime injury litigation
  • Practical issue-spotting for attorneys who do not regularly practice maritime law

Why Adam Deitz Is Teaching This Program

Adam Deitz is an admiralty attorney with Mariner Law, PLLC, where his practice focuses on representing injured seamen, commercial fishermen, maritime workers, vessel passengers, and their families. His work includes Jones Act negligence, unseaworthiness, maintenance and cure, vessel negligence, maritime wrongful death, and limitation-of-liability matters.

Adam is also a licensed mariner. That combination of maritime legal practice and firsthand vessel experience gives him a practical perspective on how injuries occur aboard vessels, how vessel operations affect liability, and how maritime claims should be investigated and presented.

By teaching this program through an independent continuing legal education provider, Adam is helping other attorneys identify maritime claims early, protect their clients’ rights, and avoid applying the wrong body of law to a waterfront or vessel-related injury.

Who Should Attend

The program is intended for personal injury lawyers, workers’ compensation attorneys, and general practitioners who may encounter injuries involving commercial vessels, fishing boats, passenger vessels, docks, terminals, shipyards, or other maritime settings. It is designed as an introductory program, so attorneys do not need prior admiralty-law experience to attend.
